The loan officer was great throughout the process except when it came to close and the bank increased the loan amount by $5k. The explanation was that we had made a $5k deposit to our savings that they could not verify the source. We explained it was from the sale of our golf cart but that was not sufficient for the underwriter. The underwriter also took forever to request data from us leaving us no time at the end to seek another lender. Not happy at all with your bank.

While I’m glad to hear your loan officer was supportive, it’s clear the last-minute changes and lack of timely communication from underwriting created stress and frustration. That’s not the experience we want anyone to have.
Unverified deposits can be a challenge due to federal lending guidelines, but we should’ve communicated more clearly and proactively to help you feel informed and supported throughout the process. I completely understand how upsetting it must’ve been to feel boxed in without time to explore other options.

My loan officer Tim was great. The process itself was definitely difficult but when you you’re getting a mortgage you can expect things to be difficult. The underwriting was by far the worst part of this process, the underwriters could definitely improve, several times our documentation was questioned only for the answer to be already in the document. I don’t think they took the time to fully read the paperwork before sending it back.

My loan team did a fantastic job making sure all the paperwork was completed so it would not get rejected. Ashley Mirth, Mariah DeJonge, and Steve Camp answered all of my questions and concerns that made this a very smooth transaction. I don’t think I could have asked for a better loan team!!
